Football Picks for Week of 10/17/09

First, the Thursday night game: I expect yet another Thursday night upset, as USF is outstanding up front on defense and will present Cincinnati with the best challenge they’ve faced yet. USF has played a tougher schedule so far, and with it being a Thursday night home game, I expect USF to win a close one, 24–21.

Look for Texas to take advantage of the lack of playmakers at Oklahoma (much like Miami did), winning the Red River Shootout for the second year in a row. Texas wins by a TD (or more), 27–20.

USC yet again puts Notre Dame in its place, 31–17

Virginia Tech learned everything not to do in watching FSU’s defense against Georgia Tech last week, and the GT defense is not very good. Hokies win (close), 28–24.

Ohio St. big over turnover-prone Purdue: 38–17.

Florida big over Arkansas, despite the Hogs putting up a few points: UF 48, Ark 24.

An underrated Nebraska team should beat Texas Tech; Huskers 31–24.

Miami will dominate UCF, 38–13.

Alabama over South Carolina in a lower scoring game, 27–13.

Missouri over Oklahoma State (this would be picked differently were Bryant on the field), 33–30.

Penn St. will blow out an overrated (as is most of the Big 10, including the Nittany Lions) Minnesota team, 41–20.

Upset special: Wisconsin surprises Iowa, 27–24.

(Last Week: 4–2, Season: 9–11)
