Want Good Study Habits? Don’t Count on Traditional Advice

Good piece in the NY Times about recent research on study habits that essentially vindicates the way I have approached my studies for a long time (that is, violating many aspects of “received wisdom” for what intuitively seemed to work better). One thing I’d emphasize is that tends to be better to study in short, focused “bursts” than in prolonged sessions. It’s also better to switch subjects frequently (especially if they’re related in any way), and if that’s not possible, shift how one is studying (reading, flash cards, etc.—don’t do one for too long).
