Shocking news has rocked the college football world today as Urban Meyer has resigned as the head football coach at the University of Florida, citing health reasons. My initial guess is that it has to do with the brain cyst Urban had long struggled with, which has tended to flare up in high stress situations, with extremely debilitating results—getting worse over the years. Urban had gotten better at managing stress (and UF’s success surely helped), but he was hospitalized in bad shape after the devastating loss to Alabama. Other reports have suggested that Urban has had tightness in his chest and heart/stress symptoms, though his heart has a clean bill of health at this point. Either way, this ‘Nole is sorry to see Urban have to step down under these circumstances, but I respect him for his decision and wish him and his family the best.
